Levi Ward letters, 1835-1841, to Seth P. Beers.

Ward, living in Rochester, New York, sent Beers, Commissioner of the School Fund, regular reports that included deeds that needed to be signed, news and questions about bonds, and updates on financial statements. In his letter of September 25, 1838, Ward reported that he expected income to be reduced that year because of a poor wheat crop. The letters were written by Levi A. Ward, Jr. for his father Levi A. Ward. Also includes one statement of debts belonging to the School Fund of the State of Connecticut, March 1, 1839. The school fund was established in 1799 in support of common schools throughout the state. The funds came from the state sale of lands it claimed in what was known as the Western Reserve in Ohio.
